Behind the Weave

Rug and Thread isn’t just a business; it’s a revival of a family tradition rooted in the foothills of the Himalayas. My grandfather, a trader on the Silk Route, traveled ancient paths connecting Nepal, China, and Tibet, bringing with him stories, culture, and carefully crafted goods. Later, my uncle expanded on this path, trading thangkas and gemstones worldwide. Life took us in different directions, and for a while, the family trade lay dormant.

Years later, I felt a calling to pick up where they left off. Inspired by our heritage, I decided to breathe new life into this legacy by starting Rug and Thread. We began with handmade rugs, with our first project during the COVID era for a client in Sag Harbor, followed by another collaboration with Interior Design KOSA. Word spread, and soon our work spoke for itself, thanks to referrals and the quality we put into every piece. But there’s more to Rug and Thread than rugs. Cashmere and pashmina, both cherished Nepali textiles sourced from the Himalayan foothills, are a key part of what we offer. These fibers represent the pride of Nepal—light, soft, and remarkably warm. Our textiles honor this heritage, bringing the essence of Himalayan craftsmanship to each piece we create.
Today, Rug and Thread blends the beauty of Nepal’s cashmere and pashmina with the timeless quality of traditional rug-making. Each rug and thread tells a story, connecting past and present with craftsmanship that endures. We’re here to bring a touch of the Silk Route—and a piece of the Himalayas—to modern interiors, one thoughtful creation at a time.
